Samsung Galaxy phones are about to support unlocking Hyundai cars

Samsung has partnered with Hyundai Motor Group to bring even more technology to the automotive world with the Galaxy S22.
Current Samsung flagship phones as well as other models can be used to access the Genesis GV60 - the new electric SUV manufactured by Hyundai - by unlocking the door thanks to a special built-in sensor and UWB technology.

With the new capability, a Samsung smartphone can replace car keys with wireless car door opening and closing. Samsung Galaxy devices can pair with Hyundai vehicles and then authorized to unlock and lock doors through the digital key system. The system in question is based on UWB wireless technology that allows Samsung smartphones to connect and communicate directly with the car, bypassing any intermediary tools. This way, users can register a digital key inside their Galaxy smartphone.

The key is available thanks to the Samsung Pass password, ID and digital signature storage system. To take advantage of the service, owners of the Genesis GV60 (or future models that will support this technology) need to install the Genesis Connected Service app, register vehicle information in the infotainment system, select On-screen Digital Key menu and registration on the Genesis app. The registration procedure will be automatic.

The vehicle can be unlocked in two ways. Unlock the car by pressing the door handle when the smartphone is in your pocket or pocket. Alternatively, unlocking can happen automatically, simply by approaching the vehicle with a smartphone. From time to time, users can choose the system to use according to their needs.

Furthermore, through Samsung Pass, users can remotely access some functions of Hyundai vehicles. For example, thanks to an application on a smartphone, users can honk or start the car even before entering the car. The application will therefore provide access to a wide range of functions.

Additionally, through Samsung Pass, users can send digital keys to up to three contacts to be able to access their vehicle with their Samsung smartphone.

Compatible smartphone models include Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold3, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold2, Galaxy Note20 Ultra. However, digital key sharing can take place with the following smartphone models: Galaxy S20 series (excluding S20 FE), Galaxy Note20 series, Galaxy S21 series, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 3 running Android 12 or later.
