Edge is about to overtake Safari to become the world's second most popular computer browser

Since switching to Chromium, the Edge browser has gained an impressive amount of users, and Microsoft is even said to have used a few not-so-beautiful ways to make Edge more popular. All of this has helped Edge gain more and more market share and is on its way to surpassing Apple's browser.

Edge has grown from 8.1% of the global desktop browser market share in February 2021 to 9.56% in February 2022, and is just a bit away from surpassing Apple's Safari browser. According to StatCounter, Safari fell from 10.27% in February 2021 to 9.75% in February 2022.


If this trend continues, Edge will overtake Safari and take second place in a few months. Meanwhile, Chrome's lead is still impregnable, despite the decline, but it still holds a 64.92% market share as of February 2022.

In terms of mobile browser market share, since Safari is the default browser on Apple's iPhone and iPad, it has a 26.71% share of the worldwide mobile market, still less than the 62.06% of Apple's market share. Chrome on both iOS and Android.


Although Microsoft Edge has been downloaded more than 10 million times on the Google Play Store and the app has 4.6 stars on Apple's App Store, the browser is not even listed in the mobile market share rankings of the company. StatCounter.
