Huawei launches 5.5G network with 10Gb/s download speed

The alliance of Huawei, China Mobile and several Chinese companies launched 5G-Advanced advanced networks with impressive download speeds.

5G-Advanced (5G-A) launched on June 6, two years after China approved the licensing of fifth-generation mobile networks. This technology achieves expected download speeds of 10 Gb/s, uploads of 1 GB/s.

In theory, 5G under ideal conditions also offers a maximum download speed of 10 Gb/s. However, the actual 5G connection is now much lower, only from 800 Mbps to 1 Gb/s in download.

With the characteristics of super high-speed network, simple and intelligent operation, 5G-A is expected to achieve actual average download speed many times higher than 5G. This is also a new step in connecting about 100 billion IoT devices in China with low cost, high-precision identification and positioning capabilities.

5G-A is currently approved by 3GPP - a global communication standards-setting organization that represents about 700 companies, including Apple, Google and Huawei. This new technology will define the goals and future development of 5G after 2025.

In fact, the details of 5G-A were mentioned by Huawei two years ago as 5.5G. At the Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF 2020) at the end of 2020, David Wang, CEO of Huawei, said 5.5G is the evolution of 5G with improved real-time interactive experiences for users. personalization, enhance mobile IoT capabilities, and explore new scenarios.

At that time, Ken Hu, Vice President of Huawei, predicted that 5G would change the way we live, connect and work. 5G services in China currently offer speeds of hundreds of Mbps, and a wide range of 5G services have been deployed in more than 20 industries in the country, including healthcare, ports, steel, power grids, etc. mining and production.

Huawei is holding an undeniably leading position in 5G. Besides upgrading 5G, the company plans to deploy 6G network from 2030. This network is predicted to have connection speeds 50 times faster than 5G, and at the same time excels in indicators such as latency, traffic density, connection density, mobility and spectrum efficiency.

China has been considering building a 6G network a few years ago, and established the National Research and Development Promotion group for 6G in 2019.
